US Weekly is reporting that Real Housewife of New Jersey cast member Caroline Manzo is leaving the reality show after five long seasons. Here’s what US had to say about her departure.
The tough-talking, no-nonsense married mother of three was one of the original cast members on RHONJ when it debuted back in 2009; she costarred alongside sister Dina Manzo, sister-in-law Jacqueline Laurita,Teresa Giudice and Danielle Staub. Both Dina and Staub — who notoriously clashed during seasons one and two — have since left the show.
Despite the RHONJ departure, though, Manzo won’t be leaving the Bravo fold. As reported earlier this month, she’s already taping the pilot for her own spinoff, Manzo’d With Children. Following the matriarch’s role as “ringleader of the crazy circus that is her Italian family,” the series will feature husband Albert, grown kids Albie, Chris and Lauren and her sister Fran.
Bravo has major decisions to make with their Housewives franchise. New Jersey, Orange County, New York, and Atlanta are all candidates for total cast overhauls. They’ve squeezed every last drop of plot out of these casts, and new narcissists are in high demand.
It isn’t a surprise that Manzo is leaving the show. She simply didn’t have anyone left to fight with. She had transitioned into full time mediator, and that doesn’t make great TV. Will replacing only Manzo be enough sprucing up for New Jersey? I think they roll the dice and replace every cast member on the show.
Also interesting is Manzo getting her own show on the network. Bravo is moving away from the Housewife branding, but still using their established stars. We’ve seen Kim, Candi, NeNe, Tamra, and most famously Bethenny get their own headlining shows. In the way that the Real World cast now is only a farm team for the Challenges, the Housewife shows are now second tier to their spinoffs.
