This season of “Dancing with the Stars” has been under the cultural radar compared to previous incarnations. The buzz worthy dancers, Billy Nye or Valerie Harper, are long gone from the show. The remaining cast of celebrities all seem to have previous professional training, which leaves the competition without the warts that normally bring in the viewers. What’s a show to do when everyone can dance, and nothing is going viral? How about bring in superstar Cher to guest judge the week and perform her new hit song. Here is Tom Bergeron announcing Cher’s appearance last week on DWTS.
Adding Cher into the judging mix is just what this show needs, and the episode becomes must watch. So often the three judges on the show are so formulaic in their criticisms of the dancers. We know that lines are important, and proper toe position, but who really cares about that? With Cher involved we are guaranteed at least one crazy rant. The judges on DWTS need to keep their comments between 10-25 seconds. There is zero chance Cher will be able to keep to those sorts of limitations.
Anyone hoping Cher will dust off some of her old hits for the dance floor will be disappointed because Cher is only on to push her new album, and the single “Woman’s World”. The song features the robotic Cher voice we first heard on the song “Believe”, and should anchor the 9pm slot on the show. Here’s the official video to wet your whistle.
“Dancing with the Stars” goes full Cher tonight on ABC at 8pm.
