No one would ever confuse season eleven of “Top Chef” as must see TV. While the show has been in that rarefied air before, this season’s collection of “cheftestants” haven’t done much to move the needle online. We can blame that on a mix of bland casting and uninspired challenges. Tonight’s all new episode looks to right the ship, but it includes another “special guest”. Last time we had one of those the show turned into the “Lea Michele Cheese Hour”. Here’s what Bravo says is in store for the chefs tonight on an all new “Top Chef” titled “Jazz Hands”.
In this week’s Quickfire Challenge, famed musician Kermit Ruffins provides the tunes for a foodie version of musical chairs. And in the Elimination Challenge, Kermit hosts a jazzy pot luck for his musician friends and the cheftestants must bring the food. Will it be harmonious or will it all go flat?
Kermit Ruffins has to be more interesting than Lea Michele. The promise of musical chairs is also a new twist for the Quickfire. If we believe the preview Bravo has released for the show then finally expect a real party. For a show based in New Orleans the level of partying felt a bit canned. Put the chefs in the middle of bourbon street with a hot plate and catfish. Then we could see the real New Orleans of public urination and over sized beverage mugs. Here’s the preview of Tom and Kermit getting primed for the chef’s dinner.
