NBC rolls the dice tonight with an all special, “The Sound of Music Live!”, featuring Carrie Underwood in the role that made Julie Andrews famous. Opposite Underwood is Stephen Moyer, Bill from “True Blood”, who steps into the role Christopher Plummer originated in the film. Obviously one of the draws of tonight’s special, outside of the star power and familiar songbook, is the “Live” aspect. Underwood made her bones every week live on “American Idol” and the cast is filled out with Broadway vets used to the pressure of the theater, but anything can happen on live TV.
Here’s the brief NBC synopsis of tonight’s performance.
Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer star in the live telecast of a beloved family classic, based on the original Broadway musical.
Fans of the movie can look forward to a slightly different presentation with the production drawing from the Broadway musical. Of course the amazing songs remain the same. Some of the classic songs on tap tonight are.
“Sixteen Going on Seventeen”
“The Sound of Music”
“So Long, Farewell”
