The inhabitants of “Downton Abbey” deal with love, loss, and the roaring 20s as the hit show from the BBC and PBS returns for a fourth season. We know that much of the early parts of the season will revolve around Matthew Crawley’s (Spoiler) fatal car crash. How someone with such good hair could meet such an untimely end is beyond me. The preview from PBS reiterates the trauma still being felt in Downton.
Six months after Matthew’s death, Mary is mired in grief, and the family and servants try to help her face a future without Matthew. Meanwhile, both Tom Branson and Carson face figures from their pasts, and Edith experiments with modernism.
“Edith flirting with modernism” is reason enough to tune in tonight. Expect new characters galore tonight, stories to match the feel of the 20s, and of course the crushing lives of the servants. Makes me wonder why there isn’t a spin-off of “Mad Men” that only involves the mail room at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. Here’s the preview for season four that gives little plot away, but is full of tantalizing visuals. The show is embracing the 20s in more ways then one. We’ve already seen the gaudy underbelly of the 20s on “Boardwalk Empire”, so now is the time to revel in the richness of the period on “Downton Abbey”.
The fourth episode of the show kicks off tonight. According to rumors there maybe Royal involvement in this season.
