The big screen is being taken over by the small screen these days as shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and True Detective are making folks value staying home and watching something for free rather than going out and spending $40 on a night at the cinema.
But movies still need television for promotion, and we’re going to see that mutual partnership in action on Tuesday night when Jimmy Kimmel Live debuts the first trailer for the upcoming Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy.
The first trailer will be in theaters Friday and premieres on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night (11:35 ET/PT), with a special intro by star Chris Pratt.
The film is being produced and distributed by Marvel and Disney, who have a stake of ownership in ABC, the network that broadcasts Kimmel’s show. There’s also Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that airs on ABC each week which helps really drive home the reason Kimmel’s show was picked for the trailer release.
Kimmel also now has competition with Jimmy Fallon debuting as Tonight Show host on Monday, meaning he’s getting a little boost from the guys upstairs at ABC with this trailer hookup.
No matter the reason, the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy will drop this week and Kimmel will be the place to catch it.
