If you lost count of how many CSI shows there were back in the day, you were’t alone. After the wild success of the original CSI, the network CBS decided that more was better — and for the most par they were right. While CSI Miami is no longer on the air, it’s almost always at least one channel in syndication and the same goes for the also defunct CSI: New York.
That’s why it’s hardly a surprise that CBS has ordered and is developing a new CSI spinoff series that will focus on cyber crime in the modern age.
The spinoff explores technology, as we know it, and how it has amplified human behavior to the point where faceless criminals are committing crimes at global proportions with a touch of a button. Avery Ryan, special agent in charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, VA, is tasked to solve high-octane crimes that start in the mind, live on-line, and play out into the real world.
Getting two CSI shows back on CBS is almost a throwback wish for fans, but it’s proof that while the show has been around forever, it’s still drawing the type of attention from viewers that warrants more of the original.
The new series is set to air its pilot episode in the spring.
