There are some major changes coming the NFL on CBS pregame show NFL Today. The network announced on Tuesday that former NFL star and likely future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez would be joining the show as a new host.
CBS made the announcement earlier this morning.
“Having just stepped off the playing field, Tony brings a fresh and insightful perspective,” CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said in a statement. “As a future Hall of Famer, we are excited for him to share his knowledge, experiences and opinions with our viewers. Tony was one of the most respected and hardworking players in the NFL and a tremendous teammate. We look forward to him bringing these attributes to CBS Sports.
The move means that all the ‘will he-won’t he’ talk about Gonzalez possibly returning for one final season has come to an end. In a deal with CBS, it’s unlikely that the former tight end would leave his job and go back to a league he’d have been sitting out of for at least 10 weeks.
That’s how long Gonzalez said he’d have to wait, as he’d only come back to a team that was 10-0. His job at CBS is much more secure and it’s likely a lot safer as well.
