While Season 18 of the hit ABC series Dancing with the Stars has yet to premiere, we had our first shocking elimination of the year last night. E! Online reports that ABC and DWTS have decided to part ways with long tenured co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet.
No exact reason for giving Burke-Charvet the axe was given, but the cut to the DWTS roster goes into effect immediately. Charvet confirmed the new in a statement to E! News .
“I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture,” she said in a statement. “I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.”
She also responded on Twitter to the show letting her go and expressed shock over the matter. It doesn’t sound like there were any negotiations about keeping Burke-Charvet on the show, as the cut seems cold and final.
E! reports that the co-host had no idea she was about to get fired, but explanation on why she was let go is expected from ABC in the coming days.
