Jimmy Fallon has been promoting Billy Joel’s Thursday night appearance all week and for good reason. Billy Joel is insanely popular, especially in the town that Fallon brought The Tonight Show back to. Fallon has been mentioning how it’s been a long time since The Piano Man has actually performed on a late night talk show. I went to Billy Joel’s IMDB page to try and track it down, but deciphering a full IMDB page is the internet version of finding a needle in a haystack.
I learned a couple things though: there is a lot of Billy Joel music in very popular movies, Billy Joel was a voice in the Disney animated flick Oliver & Company and was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program category for Billy Joel: In His Own Words.
That’s enough about Billy Joel’s IMDB page; let’s move onto the events of his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Joel was the marquee guest of the night, getting a couple segments at the desk with Jimmy. The thing that everyone will be, or at least should be, talking about is Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon’s duet. They turned themselves into a doo-wop group via the iPad/iPhone app ‘Loopy’.
What classic tune did they do? Oh just The Tokens’ ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’.
Joel also was the musical guest for the night and performed his hit ‘You May Be Right’ with a little help from Jimmy Fallon (complete with Fallon hoping up and crawling on the piano).
Topics talked about at the desk: the upcoming Billy Joel Sirius station, crashing a radio station and Joel’s residency at Madison Square Garden. Billy Joel tickets are available at TiqIQ.com
