Viewers can be forgiven if Kerri Russell’s bare behind is the only thing they remember from last week’s episode of The Americans. Moments like that tend to stick with you. Besides the aerial view of Elizabeth’s perfect backside, last week’s episode found the couple closing in on who murdered their KGB friends during the season premiere.
Tonight’s new episode, titled Arpanet, finds Philip trying to hack into way into the new form of US communications. Later in the episode the couple has another meeting with the Larrick, the naval officer they spoke with last week. They are nervous about being set up, so only Elizabeth will be at the meet while Philip watches above with a sniper rifle. That sounds like a normal day in the lives of Philip and Elizabeth. With that sort of pressure it is no wonder they reacted so harshly to daughter Paige quitting the volleyball team.
Here’s the description from FX about tonight’s all new episode.
Philip uses his agent Charles Duluth to help him gain access to an early precursor to the Internet so that the KGB can bug American government communications. Nina faces the threat of a potential FBI polygraph exam, bringing her closer to KGB colleague Oleg
The burgeoning love triangle between Stan, Nina, and Oleg is a fascinating contrast to Philip and Elizabeth. Nina’s playing both sides, but Oleg’s interference could mean the destruction of all her work. We’ve seen her use her feminine charms before when in trouble. It wouldn’t be a shock if Oleg fell under her charms in the same way Stan and the former Resident chief did.
FYI here’s the official definition of Arpanet from Wikipedia.
The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was one of the world’s first operational packet switching networks, the first network to implement TCP/IP, and the progenitor of what was to become the global Internet.
