American Idol Welcomes New Twist: Competitors' Choice Week

Things are about to get interesting on American Idol, as the top seven are faced with a new and exciting twist.

Last week, power-house vocalist Malaya Watson was sent home after receiving the lowest amount of viewer votes. As the competition goes on the race with get even more difficult as the contestants fight for a spot in the finale.

For the first time in the history of American Idol, the top seven – CJ Harris, Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, Jessica Meuse, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts, and Sam Woolf- will be performing songs selected by their fellow competitors.

Each contestant will choose a song they would like to see their fellow contestants sing. The contestants will then be given a list with the six songs the other contestants have selected for them to sing. The contestants will then be able to pick their favorite song on the list to perform this week.

This new twist will allow viewers to see just how well the contestants are with their musicality and in pairing songs to fit the other contestants’ vocal range. It would also be fun to see a little bit of sabotage, can you imagine rocker Caleb singing a One Direction song or country singer Dexter taking on Nicki Minaj?

With only five weeks until the finale, the contestants will need to choose their song wisely and continue to step up their game.

What do you think of the new “competitor’s choice” twist? American Idol airs Wednesdays at 8/7c and Thursdays at 9/8c on Fox.
