What You Need To Know About the Mass Late Night TV Hiatus

Have you been having a major case of déjà vu with late night television this week? Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s the networks. Seriously.

This week NBC, Comedy Central, ABC (for the most part) and half of CBS has gone dark with their late night programming. That leaves only the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Conan, The Pete Holmes Show and Chelsea Lately producing new content this week.

ABC will broadcast a new special episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday entitled ‘Behind the Scandalabra: Jimmy interviews the creator of Scandal’. This will work in connection with the season finale of Scandal airing that night.

Craig Ferguson finishes out the week with big stars on the couch with Kevin Bacon on Thursday and William Shatner on Friday. Conan O’Brien will have Tracy Morgan on the show on Thursday.

The majority of the shows are on hiatus in order to freshen up for the May sweeps period. Sweeps will begin next Friday, April 25.

Late night shows across the board come back on Monday full bore with a slate of great guests. Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show will have Brian Williams, David Letterman and The Late Show will have Courtney Cox, Jimmy Kimmel will have Billy Bob Thornton, and Seth Meyers and Late Night will have Senator John McCain.

Of special note, future Late Show host Stephen Colbert will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman next Tuesday.
