The CW Announces Summer Programming Schedule

The CW has announced their 2014 summer line-up, which features both new and returning series.

This summer, The CW is stepping into new territory as the network welcomes it first half-hour comedies and two new magic themed programs.

The summer line-up kicks off Monday, June 2 with Whose Line Is It Anyway moving to it’s new night. Each week The CW will air a new, original episode at 8/7c, followed by a repeat at 8:30/7:30c. Sophomore drama Beauty and the Beast will return the same night at 9/8c to finish out it’s season two run (Beauty and the Beast was pulled from the schedule this March due to low ratings).

The following night, Tuesday, June 3, The CW will debut it’s new reality series Famous in 12Famous in 12 will follow a fame seeking family, 24/7 for twelve straight weeks. The family will be guided by TMZ which will create a series of opportunities for the family.

Starting Monday, July 14, new half-hour comedy Backpackers will replace the Whose Line Is It Anyway repeat in the 8:30/7:30c slot. Backpackers follows the lives of best friends Ryan (Noah Reid, Titanic) and Brandon (Dillon Casey, Nikita) as they race across Europe searching for Ryan’s missing bride-to-be.

Also debuting July 14, is fellow half-hour comedy Seed. Seed tells the story of Harry (Adam Korson) a “single, underachieving bachelor/bartender, who is also a sperm donor.”

New magic themed reality competition Penn & Teller: Fool Us will debut July 30 at 8/7c. The show will welcome aspiring magicians that have been invited to perform their most impressive trick/illusion and fool the famous duo. Anyone who can successfully fool Penn & Teller with their trick/illusion will win the right to perform with the duo at their show at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Rounding out the summer line-up is the half-hour series Masters of Illusions which premieres August 1, at 8/7c. Hosted by Dean Cain, the series will feature “great escapes, fascinating sleight-of-hand tricks, and large scale illusions” all being performed in front of a studio audience.
