Get ready for a night full of passion and a ton of hip movement, as Dancing with the Stars prepares for “Latin Week!”
Keeping with this season’s guest judges, “Latin Week” will welcome international recording artist Ricky Martin. Martin will be joining the judging panel for a night full of various Latin routines.
“Latin Week” will feature the return of the team dances, the first of the seasons, but oddly the show has chosen to bring the team dances back at a time in the competition where there is an odd number of couples.
Looking to keep the “Meryl vs Charlie” battle going, Merly Davis and Charlie White were selected as the team captains for the “Latin Week” team challenges. Here are how the teams fill out:
Team Meryl, Samba to “Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin:
Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Danica McKellar & Valentin Chmerkovskiy
Amy Purdy & Derek Hough
Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas
Team Charlie, Salsa (song unknown):
Charlie White & Sharna Burgess
NeNe Leakes & Tony Dovolani
James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd
At a first glance you can clearly see that one team has a bigger advantage than the other. Team Meryl managed to nab Derek Hough who excels in the team dance challenges and has one of the highest success rates in putting together the higher earning team routine. The team also features three of the judges’ favorite contestants in Meryl, Danica & Amy. An interesting note is that Team Meryl is composed of all female celebrities, which could be the team’s downfall as there will be no female professional for the celebs to fall back on, instead the four women will have to work together to make sure that their moves are in sync and precise.
Team Charlie on the other hand, is the clearcut underdog of the two teams. With the exception of James, the team is composed of couples that receive the most harsh judging comments each week. While I title them underdogs, do not mistake this as me calling them bad dancers (I simply think Team Meryl features couples more liked by the judges which is an advantage in scoring). The key for the group will be in the choreography and story of the dance, the better the story the better the dance. Another potential benefit for Team Charlie is that the team only has three members, which should translate to longer individual portions of the dance for each couple. My suggestion is for James and Charlie to open and close the routine, with NeNe performing in between the two male celebs (this way they open the dance to a strong beginning and also finish strong).
Who do you think is the stronger team: Team Meryl or Team White?
Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
