Seth Meyers is following a proven formula for Late Night hosts by agreeing to take on the role of Emmy host for the 2014 telecast. The Emmy’s will air this fall on NBC, which makes the choice of Meyers unsurprising. The network has done a fabulous job of establishing Jimmy Fallon at The Tonight Show, and now the focus moves towards elevating Meyers star. The easiest way to do that is with a confident and funny Emmy hosting job.
Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O’Brien have all dipped their toes into the Emmy hosting waters. Most of them to great reviews. The Emmy Awards unlike the Oscars allow for a more comedic host, and Meyers should be given a lot of latitude by NBC.
“Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” said Paul Telegdy, president, late night, NBC Entertainment.
A recent example of Meyers ease at the Late Night desk was his bit about being Jewish enough for his in-laws. Check it out below.
