BET Announces Renewal of The Game, Adds New Series


As part of their annual upfront presentation to advertisers, BET has announced the renewal of four originalseries as well as the network’s first miniseries.

Here is a quick breakdown of BET’s upfront announcements:

Returning Series Renewed for Another Season:

Being Mary Jane – Renewed for it’s second season.

Real Husbands of Hollywood - Renewed for it’s third season.

The Game - Renewed for it’s eighth season.

106 & Park - Renewed, will continue with basic format.

New Series:

The Start Up – From Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil (The Game) this new comedy stars rapper Diggy Simmons as an entertainment / lifestyle blogger for TheJetsettes.com.

Gone Gospel - In an all new reality competition, singers from outside the gospel genre will compete against each other as they attempt to carve out the next journey in their career.

Got Game – Got Game is an all new dating show that “makes contestants go incognito to see if they can make a match based on personality or ‘game’ alone.”

All New Miniseries Event:

For the first time in BET history, the network is venturing into the world of miniseries with The Book of Negroes. The six part historical drama is based on the Commonwealth Prize winning novel by Lawrence Hill, and will star Cuba Gooding Jr, Louis Gassett Jr, and Aunjanue Ellis.

The Book of Negroes “tells the story of Aminata Diallo who was abducted from West Africa and sold into slavery in South Carolina at the age of eleven.” The miniseries “follows Aminata through her emancipation in England.”
