Fox television is looking to get in on a growing television genre, Biblical based series.
Fox has announced that they are developing Nazareth, a new event series that will document the formative years of Jesus’ life.
The new series will focus on the “lost years,” a time in the life of Jesus that is not described in the New Testament of the Bible.
The series will be written and executive produced by David Franzoni (Gladiator) with Eleven Films’ Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson, and Bob Cooper serving also serving as executive producers.
Nazareth will follow the life of Jesus from thirteen following ” a pilgrimage to Jerusalem he took with his parents.” To age thirty when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and founded his ministry.
The series is part of the overall deal Cooper’s Landscape Entertainment, which is producing the series with FX Productions and Entertainment One.
The announcement of Nazareth, joins a growing list of Biblical based series. Lifetime has ordered the series The One, which will also tell the coming of age story of Jesus.
Other networks that are currently developing Biblical include NBC (Mark Burnett’s A.D.: Beyond the Bible), CBS (Dovekeepers), OWN, CNN and WGN America.
No official premiere date has been set for the series.
