A&E is looking to get into the growing zombie genre, ordering The Returned straight to series on Wednesday. The Returned is based on French zombie, drama Les Revenants. The success of the French drama is a key reason why Thom Beers, FMNA CEO, has partnered with A&E for the series:
Les Revenants has proven to be both a critical and commercial success worldwide and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with A&E on this adaptation. Carlton [Cuse] and Raelle [Tucker], the creative forces behind such fantastic television as Lost and True Blood, are the perfect combination to bring this complicated and provocative family drama to U.S. audiences.”
Cuse (Bates Motel) and Tucker (True Blood) will oversee production of the series, and the duo will also serve as executive producers. The Returned is set in a French Mountain town, where multiple locals (who have thought to been dead) suddenly reappear in the town, bringing positive and “detrimental” consequences along with them. A&E GM David McKillop has faith that The Returned can become one of the best dramas on television, saying:
The Returned has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle. We look forward to seeing their vision brought to life on screen.”
Production will begin this summer.
