Is Katie Couric on Her Way Back to NBC's The Today Show?

It looks like Katie Couric is checking back into The Today Show, on a temporary basis at least.

The Post is reporting that Couric is in preliminary talks to return to NBC’s The Today Show. Couric would be returning as a co-host to on the morning news show as a replacement for current co-host Savannah Guthrie when she leave is on maternity leave.

Guthrie, is currently five months pregnant and is expected miss a few months of the show this sometime this summer.

While Couric’s role would be temporary, sources say that the it could turn into a long-term position if Couric is able to raise the show’s ratings.

Couric got her first opportunity as a co-host on The Today Show in 1991, when she filled in for Deborah Norville, when she left for maternity leave. When Norville decided to leave the series, Couric became the full-time co-host. She left the morning show in 2006 to pursue other ventures.

NBC is also reportedly in talks with Meredith Vieira, who succeeded Couric and served as a co-host on the show through 2011.
