In one of Hollywood’s worst kept secrets, HBO finally announced on Monday that it has ordered a six-episode second season of Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback.
The Comeback centered around Valerie Cherish (Kudrow), an aging actress, and former reality star, clinging on to her diminishing popularity.
HBO is describing the series’ return as “a limited series” that will launch this fall. The series will pick up ten years later and find Valerie attempting to gain a spot in a very crowded TV landscape, as detailed in HBO’s official release, “Valerie thinks she has it all figured out this time. She doesn’t.
Along with the series devoted fans, Kudrow also looks forward to revisiting the character of Valerie:
It as almost too fun to play Valerie Cherish the first time around. I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character.”
Despite being canceled after only 13 episodes, The Comeback managed to earn three Emmy nominations and the adoration of critics. The series’ devoted following is just one reason HBO programming president Michael Lombardo is excited to see the series return:
The Comeback holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans, including many of us here at HBO. I can’t wait to find out what Valerie’s been up to since we last met.”
In addition to Kudrow, Lance Barber, Dan Bucantinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young will all return to reprise their roles on the series.
