Update: Deadline is reporting that Ryan Seacrest has agreed to a new deal that will keep him on American Idol as the series’ host through next season, with the option of returning for a season 15th season should Fox renew Idol for a 15th cycle.
Get ready for more terrible auditions, Hollywood week meltdowns and the birth of music stars because American Idol is coming back for at least one more season.
Fox announced on Wednesday that the long-running singing competition series has been picked up for its 14th season.
The announcement came as the network revealed the location and kick-off date for season 14’s auditions (which ill begin June 18 in Minneapolis, Minnesota).
No announcement has been made as to whether the current judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. will return for next season. After a horrible, conflict ridden season twelve, season thirteen has seen a vast improvement in the judging panel (this year’s panel has received highly favorable reviews from both fans and critics). The judge who’s seat seems to be most questionable is Jennifer Lopez as the singer, actress is set to star in a new NBC drama set for the 2015 season as it is unclear if she will be able to juggle both series’ required commitments.
Ryan Seacrest is currently in negotiations with the network to return to the series as its host. As Seacrest is the only remaining Idol mainstay, expect Fox to do whatever they can to keep him on the series.
American Idol airs Wednesdays at 8/7c and Thursdays at 9/8c on Fox.
