NBC Developing Live Production of The Music Man for 2015

NBC has found it’s next live musical special!

NCB announced today that it will be produce a live musical production of The Music Man to air in 2015.The announcement was made by NBC chairman, Bob Greenblatt, as part of NBC’s upfront presentations.

Following the ratings success of last year’s Sound of Music Live!, NBC seems to be turning the live musical productions into an annual affair. Earlier this year, NBC announced plans for a live production of Peter Pan to be aired later this year and now with the announcement of the network’s plans for a 2015 production of The Music Man it looks like NBC is hoping to make the genre a annual affair.

The Music Man is a 1957 Broadway musical which tells the story of Harold Hill, an instrument salesman. Hill makes the false promise of launching a marching band of a small Iowa town, but when he begins falling for the local librarian, Marian, he winds up staying longer than he had planned.

The Music Man was turned into a big-screen film in 1962, and later brought to the small screen by ABC in 2003.

Are you excited for NBC’s live production of The Music Man? Which musical would you like to be turned into a live production next?
