After a long and lengthy negotiation process, ABC Studios/Disney has finally agreed to a new deal with ABC drama producer powerhouse, Shonda Rhimes.
The new four year extension (which is rumored to come in at eight figures) will keep Rhimes with ABC Studios through May of 2018.
Rhimes has created three of the studios’ most popular series to date. Grey’s Anatomy is currently in its tenth season run, and is a steady ratings performer for ABC. The medical drama has already been picked up for an eleventh season, and ABC’s top executives have stated in the past that the series doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. Rhimes also successfully launched a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, Private Practice, which ran for six seasons on ABC.
In recent years, Rhimes has brought America the enticing political drama Scandal starring Kerry Washington. The series continues to become a growing his for ABC, garnering award buzz and support from fans and critics alike. Scandal was also renewed and will return in the fall for its fourth season.
Rhimes’s latest project for ABC, drama How to Get Away with Murder starring Viola Davis, was ordered to series, earning a spot on ABC’s fall schedule.
Are you glad Shonda Rhimes has extended her stay at ABC Studios?
