Dancing with the Stars SemiFinals: Which Olympic Star Was Eliminated?

This week the remaining five couples on Dancing with the Stars take on two brand new routines performed to the music of American Icons.

This week Dancing with the Stars welcomes its latest guest judge award winning director, producer and choreographer Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, Michael Jackson’s This is It).

It’s the semi-finals and the couples will need to give it their all and wow the judges, and win America’s vote. Unlike past weeks, the show is going right into the first performance. Kicking the night off are Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas.

Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 34/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 8

Len Goodman: 9

Kenny Ortega: 9

Bruno Tonioli: 8

At one point in the routine, Candace loses her place in the routine and you can see that she is slightly lost in the routine. However, she does recover to finish the routine strong.

After the judges scores, co-host Tom Bergeron informs Candace & Mark that they are safe! Which means the pair will be competing the finals next week.

After a quick commercial break, Bergeron then reveals that both Amy Purdy & Derek Hough and  Charlie White and Sharna Burgess are both in jeopardy of leaving tonight. Up next is Charlie and Sharna.

Charlie White & Sharna Burgess

Dance: Foxtrot

Score: 40/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 10

Len Goodman: 10

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 10

Charlie’s foxtrot is one of his best performances to date. His perfect score is well deserved!

Amy Purdy & Derek Hough

Dance: Quickstep

Score: 39/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 10

Len Goodman: 9

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 10

Derek choreographed an amazing routine for Amy. Amy’s performance was amazing, I just don’t understand how Carrie Anne did not give Amy a 10.

Time for some more results. Next to learn their fate are Meryl Davis and Makssim Chmerkovskiy who learn they are in jeopardy which means that James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd are safe, and they will be performing next.

James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd

Dance: Cha Cha Cha

Score: 40/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 10

Len Goodman: 10

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 10

James and Peta’s Michael Jackson themed Cha Cha Cha was phenomenal, anything less than a perfect score would have been a disappointment.

Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Dance: Jive

Score: 40/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 10

Len Goodman: 10

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 10

Meryl’s jive was fun and upbeat and dancing to Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” added even more to dance’s fun.

Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas

Dance: Jazz

Score: 38/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 9

Len Goodman: 10

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 9

Candace’s jazz routine to Janet Jackson’s “Nasty” was the perfect way to rebound from her mishap earlier in the evening. I really thought that Candace had a good shot at getting her first perfect score of the season, but a 38 out of 40 is a huge step forward from her score from earlier in the evening.

Charlie White & Sharna Burgess

Dance: Samba

Score: 36/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 9

Len Goodman: 9

Kenny Ortega: 9

Bruno Tonioli: 9

Charlie has struggled all season with his Latin routines, and his struggle continued tonight. While Charlie’s samba was a vast improvement from his last Latin routine, however the routine lacked the Latin flair and rythym one expects from a Latin routine.

Any Purdy & Derek Hough

Dance: Jazz

Score: 39/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 9

Len Goodman: 10

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 10

Simply put, amazing. I just can’t believe Carrie Anne didn’t give Amy a 10!

James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd

Dance: Rumba

Score: /40

Carre Anne Inaba: 9

Len Goodman: 9

Kenny Ortega: 9

Bruno Tonioli: 9

I had to agree with the judges, that James’ rumba was as great as I had hoped it would be. While Peta choreographed an amazing routine to “Islands in the Streams” (by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton) the routine lacked the passion associated with the rumba.

Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Score: 40/40

Carre Anne Inaba: 10

Len Goodman: 10

Kenny Ortega: 10

Bruno Tonioli: 10

Meryl’s Viennese Waltz was elegant and earned her to only perfect score of the night.

Time for the final results. The first couple to be sent to safety is Amy & Derek. Which means either Meryl & Maks or Charlie & Sharna will be eliminated tonight. The couple going home to night, and just missing the finals is Charlie White & Sharna Burgess.

Are you sad to see Charlie & Sharna leave? Who do you hope takes home the mirrorball trophy next week? Let me know in the comments below.
