People Magazine is reporting that Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Mark Ballas has been hospitalized after suffering an injury in dress rehearsals on Sunday.
According to the report, Ballas “fell to the floor” during dress rehearsals with celebrity partner Candace Cameron Bure as the couple practiced their Freestyle routine. A spokesperson for the show told released the following statement:
Mark was seriously injured during camera blocking. His shoulder popped out during a lift and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated and released. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll be able to perform on Monday’s show.”
Ballas’ injury occurred when the couple was rehearsing a “complex” lift that involved Bure being lifted onto his shoulders.
ABC Studios and the Dancing with the Stars production team have “encouraged” Ballas to sit out of tonight’s performance show, so that his injury does not worsen. Should Ballas choose to sit out, another (un-named) DWTS professional is learning the routine so that he will be ready to step in and partner up with Bure.
Ballas is no stranger to injuries on the show, the dancer previously injured his shoulder during the season five finale back in 2007.
Dancing with the Stars finale kicks off tonight at 8/7c on ABC.
