TVLine reports that the cable network is currently developing a planted spin-off of Major Crimes.
Major Crimes itself is a spin-off of award winning drama The Closer, which bid farewell after seven seasons in 2012. The new proposed spin-off would focus on franchise main-stay Jon Tenney’s FBI Agent Fritz Howard.
Tenney began his role as Special Agent Howard on The Closer, and has since appeared on Major Crimes on multiple occasions. Tenney’s character is the husband of The Closer‘s main character, Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick).
Tenney is set to be featured in the seventh episode of Major Crimes‘ upcoming third season, in what would be the planted spin-off. Numerous new characters would be introduced in the episode including Special Operations Bureau commander Ann McGinnis who is described as a “modern-day Annie Oakley.”
There are also rumors that the possible spin-off would feature Major Crimes‘ Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s character Lt. Chuck Cooper. Lt. Cooper is a Special Investigation Section supervisor who was brought into the fold during the show’s second season.
Season three of Major Crimes premieres Monday, June 9 at 9/8c on TNT.
