The NHL must be skipping down streets lined with golden Zambonis thanks to the match-up served to them by the Hockey gods. This year’s battle for the Stanley Cup takes place between the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings. It’s a series that brings to mind some of the classic 80s battles. With two marquee teams the NHL is definitely hoping that tonight’s game 1 of the series on NBC brings solid ratings.
The folks over at NBC appear to be throwing their support behind the Rangers. (Sidenote: GO RANGAS!) NBC reports that the time off the Rangers got will come into play. While the Rangers were resting, the Kings were dealing with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Here’s how NBC breaks down the difference in rest time.
The Rangers played in 20 out of 21 possible games while the Kings played all 21 through the first three rounds. Los Angeles must play on Wednesday after winning the most emotional series of Dustin Brown‘s career on Sunday.
To give you a point of comparison, the Kings and Rangers played 41 postseason games through three rounds while last year’s finalists Boston Bruins (16) and Blackhawks (17) required 33 games to get to the 2013 Stanley Cup Final. (Remarkably, Los Angeles cleared three rounds in 14 games in the 2012 title run.)
