'Pretty Little Liars' Renewed through 2016

ABC Family announced on Tuesday that it has renewed its top performing drama Pretty Little Liars for a sixth and seventh season, just hours before of the series’ season five premiere.

Season six is set to debut mid-2015, while season seven with debut in mid-2016. No details have been released on the two seasons’ episode counts, however it is safe to assume they will be somewhere between 22-25 episodes.

Pretty Little Liars ranks as ABC Family’s number one series in total viewers (averaging 3.8 million viewers per episode) and regularly claims the top spot in the individual demo ratings. ABC Family president Tom Ascheim cites the series’ continued popularity as one of the key reasons for the two season pick-up:

Pretty Little Liars has taken its place in the zeitgeist and reigns supreme in pop culture. I am glad to bring another two seasons to our audience, because ‘A’ has a lot in store for our Liars.”

Since debuting in 2010, Pretty Little Liars has managed to generate a large social media following, generating an average of 675,000 tweets on Twitter per episode.

Pretty Little Liars is execute produced by Joseph Dougherty, Marlene King, Oliver Goldstick and Leslie Morgenstein and stars Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn, Lucy Hale, Ian Harding, Laura Leighton, Shay Mitchell, Janel Parrish, and Sasha Pieterse.
