Ratings: NBA Finals Easily Win Sunday Night

ABC’s coverage of the NBA Finals Game 5 easily managed to win a otherwise dismal Sunday night.

15.2 million viewers tuned in on Sunday to watch the San Antonio Spurs defeat the Miami Heat to win the NBA championship, marking the team’s fifth championship win and the end of the Heat’s two-year winning streak. ABC’s Game 5 broadcast also nabbed a 5.8 demo rating (although many expect both the demo rating and total viewers to increase).

Sunday’s Game 5 was up over this year’s Game 4 preliminary numbers (12.8 mil/5.2) and the game also was up from last year’s Game 5 broadcast which averaged 14.2 million total viewers and a 5.6 in the demo.

Here is how the  night’s other new outing performed on Sunday:

Fox: An all new episode of canceled military comedy Enlisted pulled in 1.2 million total viewers and a 0.4 in the demo. While Sunday’s new episode was up slightly in total viewers, the series was flat in the demo.

NBC: The series finale of Believe averaged 3.1 million total viewers and a 0.7 in the demo. Up against the NBA Finals the series fell 28 percent in total viewers and 22 percent in the demo. Closing out the night for NBC, Crisis averaged 3.2 million total viewers and a 0.7 in the demo. Crisis was also down this week against the NBA Finals shedding 18 percent of its total viewers and 12 percent of its demo. For those still tuning into the series, NBC has moved the double-episode series finale event to Saturday, June 21 beginning at 8/7c.
