Ratings: 'AGT' Wins Night, 'Rising Star' Debuts with Okay Numbers

NBC’s Sunday night counter-programming against ABC’s newest singing venture paid off.

A special Sunday edition of America’s Got Talent easily won the night for NBC. Sunday’s special broadcast brought in 8 million total viewers and pulled a 2.1 in the adults 18-49 demo. While Sunday’s America’s Got Talent won the night on Sunday, the special was down 30 percent in total viewers and 19 percent in the demo from the series’ Tuesday outing.

Here is how the night’s other new outings faired:

ABC: Facing off against America’s Got Talent, ABC’s premiere Rising Star averaged 5 million total viewers and a 1.5 in the demo. While those numbers were good enough to place second in Sunday’s ratings and demo, Rising Star‘s debut was down slightly from Duets (6.8 mil/1.7), ABC’s last venture into the world of singing competitions. Kicking off the night for ABC, Wipeout returned to 3.5 million total viewers and a 1.0 in the demo. Sunday’s new Wipeout lost 20 percent of its total audience and 23 percent of its demo from its previous season opener, premiering to series lows.

Fox: Fox’s freshman comedy Enlisted came to an end on Sunday night, with the series finale drawing in a mere 940,000 total viewers and a 0.3 in the demo, slipping 22 percent and 25 percent in the week-to-week measurements.
