Ratings: ‘Extreme Weight Loss’ Rises, ‘Night Shift’ Slips

Following an early renewal last week, ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss managed to bring in a few additional viewers during Tuesday’s newest episode. Extreme Weight Loss averaged 3.5 million total viewers on Tuesday, while pulling a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 age demo. Tuesday’s newest episode was up 12 percent in total viewers and saw a 25 percent increase in the demo.

Following Extreme Weight Loss, an all new Celebrity Wife Swap featuring Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt averaged 3.8 million total viewers an a 1.3 in the demo. Tuesday’s new Celebrity Wife Swap was down ten percent in total viewers and lost two tenths in the demo.

Here is how Tuesday’s other new outings performed:

NBC: A rerun of America’s Got Talent easily scored Tuesday’s largest demo numbers (Tuesday’s largest audience went to an NCIS rerun with 8.7 million total viewers). The rerun episode averaged 7.9 million total viewers and a 1.9 in the adults 18-49 age demo. Following the America’s Got Talent rerun, an all new Night Shift was pulled in 6 million total viewers and a 1.2 in the demo. Without a new America’s Got Talent lead-in, Nighty Shift was down a tenth in its demo rating.

The CW: An all new Famous in 12 averaged 600,000 total viewers and a 0.2 in the demo, slightly up in the total viewers, but flat in demo.

    Perhaps the fact that it is now summer time makes people think more about their bodies. I could see this as an explanation for the higher audience. I hope that people who participate to Extreme Weight Loss receive long term, followup after the show has ended to help them continue with their achievement.
