It appears that the ABC executives in charge of the daytime talk fest The View are taking the opportunity of Barbara Walters retirement to completely shakeup the feel of the show. The first step in the rebooting of the show is saying goodbye to veteran Sherri Shepard and new arrival Jenny McCarthy. This leaves show host Whoopi Goldberg as the only returning table talker. Here is what EW.com had to say about the news, and a bit of news about who the show might be targeting as replacements.
Between the duo leaving and Barbara Walters retiring from the show, that leaves only Whoopi Goldberg as presumably the last woman standing. “The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next year and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” the network said in a statement. Sources say that “exciting new direction” just might possibly include a male co-host or two (gasp!).
The View has gone under the knife before. It makes sense for the show to seek out new voices with the departure of Walters. Whoopi is not only an amazing EGOT winning actor, but also a great leader on the show. Should the show return to the politics charged topics it followed during Rosie O’Donnell’s tenure? Why not hire an arch conservative voice like Stacy Dash? The show is better when it is making viral video noise, like when Sherri Shepherd claimed to not know whether or not the world was round.
