NBC announced on Tuesday that new summer medical drama The Night Shift has been renewed for a second season, likely to premiere next summer.
Since debuting in May, The Night Shift has become a steady performer for NBC averaging 6.7 million viewers and a 1.4 in the adults 18-49 demo behind reality competition juggernaut America’s Got Talent. The Night Shift first landed a series order back in 2013 for a planned midseason debut, but NBC decided to hold the series for its summer line-up (a move that seems to have paid off).
The series, created by Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs, centers around the men and women who work the night shift at San Antonio Memorial Hospital’s ER.
Daniella Alonso, Robert Bailey Jr., Jill Flint, Jeananne Goossen, J.R. Lemon, Eoiin Macken and Freddy Rodriguez star in the series which hails from Sony Pictures Television.
News of The Night Shift‘s renewal comes on the heals of another victory for Sony Pictures Television, as the studio successfully managed to resurrect canceled comedy Community for a sixth season.
The Night Shift will wrap up its eight episode freshman season Tuesday, July 15 on NBC. Catch an all new episode of The Night Shift tonight at 10/9c on NBC.
