WWE News: CM Punk Officially Retired from the WWE

Its official, CM Punk is no longer a WWE Superstar.

After walking out on the WWE earlier this year, the WWE has officially moved former WWE Champion CM Punk from their current WWE roster section of their website to their alumni section.

Punk, the longest reigning WWE Champion in company history, was last seen on WWE programming back in January at the 2013 Royal Rumble pay-per-view. A fan favorite, Punk’s exit from the WWE caught the WWE Universe off-guard, leaving fans with one question on their mind: why did he leave?

While many have speculated the reasons behind his departure, fellow WWE Star and Punk’s longtime friend Paul Heyman in recent weeks has helped shine some light on the true factor behind Punk’s exit. In a recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s podcast, Heyman noted Punk ultimately left the company because he was unhappy:

“He was unhappy. He had enough. He couldn’t take it anymore, and it wasn’t a slow build. A year before he walked, there were daily conversations of ‘I don’t know how much longer I could take, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be here…’ So, I’m surprised it lasted that long.”

Following the WWE’s quiet move of Punk to the alumni section of WWE.com, fans have taken to Twitter to thank Punk for all that he’s done for the WWE with #ThankYouPunk quickly becoming a trending topic on the social media site worldwide.

Punk quickly replied to the outpouring of support from the WWE Universe, thanking them for their support throughout his years with the company:
