When television’s highest rated comedy series The Big Bang Theory returns this fall for its eight season, Kaley Cuoco’s character Penny’s life will be take in a new direction.
After putting the breaks on her acting career, Penny will take up a new career that will come with a very nice paycheck. However series co-creator Chuck Lorne teases that Penny’s new career could put a strain her relationship with her finance Leonard (Johnny Galecki), telling The Hollywood Reporter:
“Penny has an interesting arc this year where she puts acting down. She gets a shot to be a pharmaceutical rep at Bernadette’s [Melissa Rauch] company.
She’s going to start making some money, which will unbalance their relationship as the power shifts. She’s going to find some confidence and self-esteem, which acting does not provide in great heaping doses.”
But will Cuoco be back this season? With production on season eight quickly approaching Cuoco along with fellow cast-mates Jim Parsons, Galecki, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar are still involed in heated contract negotiations, leaving many to question whether the series can go one without these core members of the cast. Fear not thought, as Lorne notes that all parties are working hard to come to an agreement and he has a feeling everything will work itself out:
“There are people at Warner Bros. Television and people representing the actors who have done this before. This will work itself out. I think it’s great; I want them all to be crazy wealthy because nobody deserves it more than this cast. It’ll work out.”
The Big Bang Theory returns Monday, September 22, before moving to its regular timeslot on Thursdays beginning October 30.
