CBS Shifts 'Extant' to New Time Slot

Is Extant  already heading toward extinction?

After suffering two weeks of rating declines, CBS has decided to push the Halle Berry starring series Extant back one hour to 10/9c.

CBS’ decision to move the series from 9/8c to 10/9c is in an effort to give the series a better chance at increasing its total viewers, allowing the show to avoid competition from summer’s highest rated series, NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

Extant will swap places will reruns of CBS’ veteran drama Criminal Minds, allowing the series to serve as a new lead-in for CBS’ newest summer drama.

In its first head to head battle with NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Extant  was easily defeated by the veteran reality series in both total viewers (11.09 million to 6.48 million) and in the 18-49 age demo (2.4 versus 1.6).

Extant‘s move from 9/8c to 10/9c, marks CBS’ second timeslot switch this summer, when the network switched it Sunday drama, a move that has since paid off. When fellow freshman drama Reckless failed to attract a steady audience Sundays at 9/8c following Big Brother, CBS moved the drama to 10/9c. Leading out of new episodes of Unforgettable, Reckless has managed to perform steady in the adults 18-49 demo and rising in total viewers.

Catch an all new Extant in its new timeslot this Wednesday at 10/9c.
