When ABC’s veteran reality competition series Dancing with the Stars returns for its nineteenth season this fall things might look a little different as the series welcomes a new showrunnner in Rob Wade.
As Wade prepares to take over the reigns this fall, many fans have been curious about the changes Wade has planned for this fall’s cycle. So what does Wade have planned for this season?
In a recent interview with TheTVPage, Wade notes that ABC’s decision to hire him as the series’ newest showrunner it was not in an effort to shake-up the show completely:
“[Usually when a network brings on a new boss it is so they can shake things up], but this time it is not. The show did really great last season. Quite early on in the season, Conrad [Green] who was the EP decided to leave. He had done 18 seasons. He decided he wanted a new challenge. So in this case the show is doing great and we have to be really respectful of the format. I would be a fool to go in there and say, ‘I want to put my stamp on this. I am going to go in there and shake things up.’ But there are a couple of significant that I am in the process of making that I think people will notice.”
So what exactly are those changes Wade hinted at in the interview? One possibility is the introduction of new professional dancers, as Wade notes that the show is always looking for new talent:
“We are always looking for new dancers [and[ we are always looking for fresh cast members. We have a core [group] of people that we love [and] it is not that we are not happy with the dancers. Again we have a couple of ideas that we are looking at.”
In addition to the possibility of a few new professional dancers, Wade also hinted the possibility of adding a permanent fourth judge to the judge’s table:
“For the moment, we are looking at three [judges]. There is a possibility for a fourth. We are talking about that personality.”
