'NCIS' Taps Adam Campbell to Play Young Ducky in Flashback Episode

Get ready to see Dr. Donald Mallard like you’ve never seen him before.

When NCIS returns this fall for its twelfth season, fans of the long running naval procedural will get a glimpse at a younger version of the series’ resident Medical Examiner Dr. Mallard (David McCallum).

CBS has tapped Mixology‘s Adam Campebell to guest star in a special flashback episode that will offer viewers a chance to explore the background of Dr. Mallard. The flashback episode, which is set to air some time in October, will explore Dr. Mallard’s past relationships as well as finally revealing the reason why he always wears a bow tie rather than a traditional necktie.

NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg sited Campbell’s uncanny resemblance to McCallum as a key factor behind the casting decision:

“When we saw Adam, all we could think of was a young David McCallum. We can’t wait to introduce him as young Ducky and watch what he brings to this unusual role.”

Campbell’s television credits also include roles on CBS’ 2 Broke Girls and Harper’s Island.

NCIS returns for its twelfth season Tuesday, September 23 at 8/7 on CBS.
