Peter Pan Live hopes to match the buzz and interest that NBC generated last winter with The Sound of Music Live. That original live musical spectacle featured country music superstar Carrie Underwood, and was a smash hit for the ratings challenged network. It therefore wasn’t a shock when NBC announced that this winter they’d mount a live version of the Peter Pan musical. The surprise was that they decided to cast Allison Williams, from HBO’s Girls and the daughter of NBC News Anchor Brian Williams, in the role of the boy who didn’t ever want to grow up.
Allison Williams has expressed her interests in singing before, even getting a chance to sing a bit on Girls, but she isn’t a household name like Carrie Underwood. Hopefully skeptics will begin to change their minds when they see this first look at Williams in the role of Peter Pan. This image was tweeted out by the Today Show twitter account, and features Williams in full Pan regalia.

What do you think about Williams’ look? The role of Peter Pan in the musical versions has always been performed by a woman. The original version featured Mary Martin in the role of Pan, and most viewers will also remember Sandy Duncan’s turn as Peter.
Allison Williams flies into our living rooms on Thursday, December 4th.
