Couple: Meredith/Nathan? Grey/Riggs? Pretty sure there’s no official name these two yet
Has It Gone Canon: Kind of. Mer (Ellen Pompeo) and Riggs (Martin Henderson) slept together unexpectedly toward the end of last season. But Mer has been trying to put a damper on the whole thing since.
Why We Ship It: Doesn’t quite flow off the tongue as well as Mer/Der did but since Derek’s death and the time jump, it has absolutely made sense to want to see Meredith date again. There was some real potential with an army doctor that lasted a few episodes but Grey ultimately decided she wasn’t quite ready for something so serious. Of course based on the reaction to Riggs’ intro to series, many immediately saw him for he was – a McDreamy replacement. For me, it seemed like it was never going to happen since Mer sided with Owen (Kevin McKidd) and hated Riggs in the beginning.

I think in a lot of ways she expected it to be a fling, a chance to alleviate some feelings. While kissing him last season I distinctly rejected the idea of these two. It just seemed both obvious and for all the wrong reasons. However, since then, he’s proven to be a good confidant for Mer and their friendship is really blossoming organically enough that I’d like to see where it goes.
