‘Teen Wolf’ Season 6: Tyler Hoechlin Rumored to Return Before Series Finale

Derek Hale may soon return to Beacon Hills! With production on the sixth and final season of Teen Wolf currently nearing its end, the Teen Wolf rumor mill has been running at full speed making it difficult to differentiate fact from fiction. That said, it appears that we can (un)officially add Tyler Hoechlin to the growing list of alumni set to pop up during the final ten episodes of MTV’s hit supernatural drama.
Hoechlin was recently spotted on set alongside star Dylan O’Brien during filming of the back half of Season 6, seemingly confirming the long-standing rumors that Derek would indeed return to Beacon Hills for one last appearance before the series rolls its final end credits. While details surrounding Hoechlin’s return remain unknown, creator Jeff Davis did chime in following the video’s release telling Teen Wolf Updating, “All I can say at the moment is that the resourcefulness of fans never ceases to amaze me.”
Reports of Hoechlin’s return to Teen Wolf, come just over a month after fellow alum Colton Haynes took to Instragram for a live Q&A with fans where he revealed that he had been asked back to the show and teased his return after exiting the series ahead of its third season.
Hoechlin was last seen in Beacon Hills in the Season 4 finale during Scott and the pack’s final showdown with Kate and her Berserker army. After seeming to have been fatally wounded, Derek was revived with all of his werewolf abilities in tack and the ability to shapeshift into a wolf. Following the battle, Derek and Braeden rode off together, leaving Beacon Hills behind in the rearview mirror.
While Teen Wolf has seen its fare share of cast departures over the years, Hoechlin’s exit was considered by many to leave the biggest hole in the cast having served as Scott’s mentor throughout the series’ first four seasons. As Tyler Posey put it best when talking with Hidden Remote last fall at New York Comic-Con, “I feel like [Derek’s return is] really pivotal for Scott and [for Derek to] see the man that Scott is now would be really cool for the both of them. To get some closure and just be like, “Here, look at what you created man. Your weird ways turned me into a pretty solid dude.” I think he’d be very proud and I think that would be a cool moment.”
