The nostalgia, the pirates, the rum! Captain Jack Sparrow and what’s left of his crew are back in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.’

Johnny Depp doesn’t portray Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp IS Sparrow. This is more than just another character to him. While most actors prepare to take on a role before stepping on stage, Johnny Depp unwinds and relaxes as his alter-ego is released. And what’s more fun to watch than an actor who is genuinely enjoying his role?

More from Entertainment

Depp’s genuine enjoyment paired with Geoffrey Rush returning as Barbosa, more pirate shenanigans, and, of course, lots of rum, and you’ve got a fun movie. Not to mention, if you’ve been a fan of these movies since 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, there’s plenty of nostalgia in store. But just how fun is Dead Men Tell No Tales? And is it worth watching it this weekend?

Dead Men is not as magical or intriguing as the first film, so don’t expect to love it more. However, this chapter is the second most entertaining of all sequels.

Pirates 5 kicks off with Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann’s (Keira Knightley) son. The young boy finds his father, but can’t stay with him for too long due to the curse. Before they part ways, though, Henry promises to find the trident of Poseidon, to free his father from the curse. In fact, finding the trident removes all curses of the ocean. Will doesn’t appear too hopeful, telling his son that finding the trident is impossible. But Henry believes Jack Sparrow can help, if he can find him, that is.

On his journey, almost a decade later, Henry is joined by a woman named Carina (Kaya Scodelario) who loves astronomy and is sure to remind us that she loves astronomy every chance she gets. Finally, Henry finds Jack, but is rather unimpressed by the drunk pirate. You’ve got a lot to learn about Jack, Henry! And so the search for the trident commences!

As if this mission weren’t tough enough, Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) isn’t making things easier for the trio. He is seeking revenge for being cursed thanks to Jack Sparrow, and is determined to end Sparrow’s life.

Critics have not been too kind with their reviews of the latest pirates adventure. The movie currently sit on Rotten Tomatoes with a 31% rotten score. This may have you questioning whether you should check out the movie this weekend or not. If you are a fan of the original movie, I say you definitely give Dead Men Tell No Tales a chance. Even if you are new to the franchise and Pirates 5 is your first movie, give it a shot!

While the film isn’t great and far from flawless, it’s entertaining. And if you need more convincing, here are three things to love about Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales
