Roswell, New Mexico will debut on The CW in the midseason lineup. EP Chris Hollier took the time to share how the reboot will compare to the original and how it’s a more adult story.

The CW opted to pick up two reboots for the 2018-2019 season. One of those we’ve seen hit the airwaves already, but we’re still waiting for the second. That second is from The Originals‘ EP Carina Adly MacKenzie as she brings Roswell, New Mexico to life. On her team is EP Chris Hollier who discussed the “more adult story” at NYCC.

Those who worry about a change from the 90s/00s TV show should keep in mind that that story was a change from the original book series. Characters names and races were slightly adapted, which is something this reboot is actually going to fix in a way. The story is going to be grounded more into the books, just set 10 years later, taking it out of high school.

More from CW

Hollier explained that the “more adult story” has made it possible to tell a deeper romance story and that’s certainly there. This show will also connect more to current politics, especially with the illegal aliens–both in terms of illegal immigrants and the literal aliens.

During the interview, Hollier shared that there’s going to be a connection to other TV shows and movies. There will be nods to favorite movies. However, the sci-fi will take a back step. This is a romance story first and a drama second, which, in a way, is similar to the Roswell of the 90s.
