100 Words Or Less: Mean Girls

At first glance, it appears as though Mean Girls is simply a shallow teen-girl comedy. However, upon deeper inspection, one will find an incredibly intelligent and expertly written satire, not for shallow teenage girls, but about them. Screenwriter Tina Fey’s script competently captures, then flawlessly exaggerates, the high school experience. While the film’s titular targets are the bitchy popular girls, no one is safe from Fey’s pen; she skewers everyone — including math nerds, the “alternative” crowd, jocks and clueless adults. This is one of the most surprisingly hilarious — and embarrassingly (as a guy) quotable — high school comedies of the last decade.
