Ferris Bueller Ferrari Sold for $235,000 at Charity Auction
Ferris Bueller wanted to take his best friend Cameron’s Ferrari out while they skipped school. Little did Ferris know, all he needed was a cool $235,000 and he’d have been able to take the car home at the end of that day off. A replica of the Ferrari used in the John Hughes classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off sold at a charity auction over the weekend for a reported $235,000.
The car is one of three authentic props used in the film, so even though it bares the moniker of ‘replica’ it also is an extremely rare piece of cinema history. Don’t think that because it’s being called a replica and that it was built specifically for the film that it’s not a fully functional vehicle. According to NBC Bay Area, the cars were made by a company called Modena and have a 500 horsepower kick to them.
The car’s builder says that unlike other “movie cars,” it’s not built just for looks. The car puts out 500 horsepower and has been meticulously repaired and restored from its filmed fall (the front suspension took a beating).
The Ferrari sold was one of three built specifically for the production of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and were made for the now infamous scene where Cameron accidentally pushes it out a plate glass window and into the wilderness abyss.
Few movie props are as collectible or as instantly recognizable as the 1963 Ferrari used in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. But while the car may not have been an authentic Ferrari, for one movie fan it’s 235,000 time better than the real thing.
