Vin Diesel Casts Two-Time Oscar Nominee Djimon Hounsou in ‘Fast and Furious 7’

The talent that Vin Diesel is attracting to the once left for dead Fast and Furious franchise continues to amaze. After grabbing action superstar Jason Staham as well as star Kurt Russell, Fast and Furious 7 has cast it’s most unusual actor yet in two time Oscar nominee  Djimon Hounsou.

Per a report in Variety:

Djimon Hounsou is set to join the cast of Universal’s “Fast & Furious 7.” … Most of the franchise’s top talent are returning for “Fast & Furious 7,″ including Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, producer Neal H. Moritz and writer Chris Morgan, with James Wan directing.

In addition to the original cast returning for the seventh film in the series, newbies to the franchise include Hounsou, Russell and UFC starlet Ronda Rousey.

But where the other actors seem to fit the genre Fast and Furious 7 is in — even if Russell is a little out of place on paper — Hounsou is the one that sticks out the most. Twice nominated for an Academy Award for acting, adding Hounsou to the cast only bumps up the credibility of the franchise that has been reborn over the past five years.

Hounsou’s two Oscar nominations came in 2002 for In America and again in 2006 for Blood Diamond. Here’s to hoping Fast and Furious 7 finally nets him that win that has eluded him thus far in his career.
