30. Name Origins on The Simpsons

When creating the Simpson family, Matt Groening looked towards his own family for inspiration behind the names. His father Homer was a filmmaker and cartoonist; his mother Margaret was a teacher; and His two sisters were named Lisa and Maggie. The show’s Aunt Patty got her name from Groening’s younger sister and he Wiggum family on the show got their namesake from Groening’s mother’s maiden name.

However, that’s where the semblance stops as the cartoon characters bear little similarity to their counterparts. As for Bart, his name is an anagram for “brat,” which makes total sense.
