Following SPOILER’s shocking death last night on a shocking -and emotionally scarring- new episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, fans continue to set Twitter ablaze with their tweets of outrage.
Warning: the following article contains major spoilers from Thursday’s shocking new Grey’s Anatomy, if you have not yet watched and do not want to spoil the episode’s storyline do not read on beyond this point. You’ve been warned…
Oh Shonda Rhimes, why do you have to toy with our emotions the way you do!
On Thursday’s new Grey’s Anatomy – much to every fan’s disbelief – fan-favorite and one half of television most beloved couples Dr. Derek Shepherd unexpected met an untimely death.
Here’s a brief recap in simplest form: As Derek made his way to the airport -to fly out to Washington and resign from his current position – he opted to take a shortcut and avoid the heavy Seattle traffic. Things quickly took a turn for the worse when – wait for it – Derek witnessed a potentially deadly accident right before his eyes.
Able to bring his vehicle to a halt and avoid the collision, Derek – in true McDreamy fashion – quickly rushed to check in on the accident’s victims. After successfully rescuing the crash’s four victims, Derek makes his way to his vehicle to presumably make his way back home.
As Derek begins turning his vehicle around his cell phone begins ringing. As he reaches over to answer the call -BAM! – a semi crashes into the driver’s side of Derek’s car.
Derek is transferred to a local hospital – surprisingly not named Grey-Sloan Memorial – where, long story short, Derek quickly takes a turn for the worst. Due to under-experienced medical staff Derek is declared brain-dead – an ironic twist for one of the world’s top neurologists.
Needless to say, fans did not take Derek’s death lightly and have since taken over the world of Twitter to express their shock and outrage on the beloved character’s death:
It will be interesting to see where the series goes from here, as Meredith and the rest of the cast deal with the fallout of Derek’s untimely death. One thing we do know, make sure to have a box of tissues on hand next week as we prepare for a super-sized two hour goodbye to one of the most beloved characters in television history.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.
Grey’s Anatomy Fans: Where would you rank Derek’s death on the ever-growing list of shocking deaths? Where would you like to see Meredith and Co. go from here? Can the series make it without McDreamy?
