Sawyer Sweeten, Son On ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Dead At 19

“A Life Cut Short By His Own Hands–Sawyer Sweeten, A Child Actor”


Sawyer Sweeten, star of Everybody Loves Raymond, was found dead at a family members home in Texas which appeared to be a suicide. He died on Thursday at the age of 19, just weeks away from his 20th birthday, by shooting himself. His sister Madylin stated, “This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”

Madylin also made a statement on her Facebook page, “At this time I would like to encourage everyone to reach out to the ones you love. Let them have no doubt of what they mean to you.”

Sawyer, along with his twin brother Sullivan and Madylin, portrayed the Barone kids on the show from 1996-2005. Ray Romano made a statement to PEOPLE, “I’m shocked and terribly saddened by the news about Sawyer.He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family and his friends during this very difficult time.”

Patricia Heaton who played the kids mom on the show tweeted out her condolences:

Doris Roberts who played his onscreen grandmother took to her Facebook page to express her condolences.

“The entire cast of Everybody Loves Raymond is in shock.”

It is definitely difficult to know who could be suffering from signs of depression or the possibilities of wanting to end their own life. Its with great sadness to report this news because it’s truly hard to swallow news when a young soul has flown away too soon.

Sawyer Sweeten is survived by his family.
